Since the Music Center first opened its doors, they have been a major contributor to the Los Angeles cultural fabric recognized for their dedication to artistic excellence. The Center's family, participatory arts and dance programming along with their internationally acclaimed resident companies, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Center Theatre Group, Los Angeles Opera and Los Angeles Master Chorale, present thousands of performance, tours and events each year. The Music Center also provides the finest in arts education to more than 350,000 students and teachers annually through nearly 14,000 programs presented in 20 languages. The Music Center's amazing houses, Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, Ahmanson Theatre, Mark Taper Forum, and the 2003 addition of the Frank Gehry designed Walt Disney Concert Hall comprise today's 11-acre Music Center Campus.

The Music Center Spotlight Awards
The Music Center Spotlight Awards program is a nationally-acclaimed recognition and scholarship program for Southern California high school performing and visual artists. The Music Center Spotlight Awards program was established in 1988 to provide meaningful recognition, encouragement and advancement opportunity to high school performing and visual artists in Southern California. Now in its 20th year, the program boasts many highly successful past winners. More importantly, thousands of students of all levels of ability have benefited from this unique learning experience.

Education/Family
Family Programming at the Music Center introduces children and adults to the richly varied world of the performing arts through musical performances, artist talks, books brought alive by performing artists, special events, and more.

World City: Take a trip to another country one Saturday a month, with this free performance series that reflects the rich array of cultures making up the Los Angeles Community.

Pillow Theatre: Designed specifically for families with children ages 3-6, these 30 minute interactive performances feature world class artists performances and a post-show art workshop.


Active Arts
Active Arts at the Music Center is a series of low or no-cost events for the artist in everyone. Come sing, dance, play music, and tell stories downtown. Be ACTIVE.


Dance Downtown: Live music, DJ and complimentary dance lessons under the stars on the Music Center Plaza.

A Taste of Dance: Dance around the world in your own backyard, featuring dance lessons throughout the day.

Drum Downtown: Drum outdoors on a beautiful Saturday morning...fun, vibrant and energetic.

Get Your Chops Back: Dust off your instruments and make music again.

Friday Night Sing-Alongs: Enjoy warm summer nights with sing-along fun on Friday evenings.

Music Center Holiday Sing-Along: Sing along to sounds of the season featuring a concoction of festive favorites.

Jingle Bell Sing: Join a giddy chorus of holiday songsters just like you.

L.A. Storytellers: Celebrate life by sharing oral histories, personal and/or family stories, engaging experiences and vivid memories.
