The Drowsy Chaperone and Starbucks
Objective:
To create an event in conjunction with Starbucks to launch its 2006 “Spread the Holiday Cheer” campaign while benefiting Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
Elements:
- Performance: The cast of The Drowsy Chaperone performed an original holiday song, “Rockin’ Christmas Angel,” written by the show’s Tony Award winning composers, Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison. Tony Award Winner Beth Leavel also performed “As We Stumble Along.” Performance took place outside of The Marquis Theater in Times Square.
- Presentation: As part of their “Spread the Holiday Cheer” campaign, representatives from Starbucks presented a check to Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS on behalf of The Drowsy Chaperone for $10,000. This donation counted towards The Drowsy Chaperone's BC/EFA fundraising drive.
- Sampling: Throughout the morning, Starbucks held “Surprise and Delight” activities which included sampling of Gingerbread Lattes and Peppermint Mocha drinks as well as distribution of random “acts of cheer” to commuters and tourists in Times Square such as complimentary bags of Christmas blend coffee, Peppermint Chapstick, MetroCards, $5 Starbucks Cards, and 20 pairs of tickets to The Drowsy Chaperone. The cast of The Drowsy Chaperone helped distribute these items after the performance and presentation.
Overview of Results:
Event garnered media exposure for The Drowsy Chaperone, Starbucks, and BC/EFA including a segment highlighting the event on Fox 5 News.
